Billy 5000 is a math genius dropout on looking to make $5000 in the gig economy. Everything’s going well until he crosses paths with an alien. Now, with the power of lo-fi musical numbers, something I wish I had, and deadpan comedy, Billy must take on an evil corporation. Yes this films pretty unique.
When I started watching this, I really was mot sure what to expect, but it quickly gave me cartoon network 2010 vibes, think like Adventure Time. Which totally makes sense because the director, Julian Glander, has worked for both Adult Swim and Cartoon Network. So he definitely passes the vibe check.
Julian Glander brings this quirky off-kilter energy to Boys Go to Jupiter, and I am here for it. I really don’t know how to explain it but watching this movie took me back to my early teens hanging with my friends & making stupid jokes while we enjoyed the heat. It’s a very pleasant feel.

Helping add to this vibe is a pretty solid cast with Jack Corbett, Sarah Sherman, Miya Folick, Tavi Gevinson, Grace Kuhlenschmidt, Elsie Fisher, Janeane Garofalo, Demi Adejuyigbe and more.
The art style is very trippy, and once it has you sucked in, well, you won’t go back. There isn’t much else out there like it. And it is exactly what Western Animation should be doing. Pushing boundaries and getting weird.

Then you have the music. Oh my God, it is the soundtrack to this movie, fantastic. It just elevates everything about the story and is easily the reason why I watched this film twice.
It’s quirky, funky, and weird. In all the best ways.
