The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power Season 2 soundtrack to be released worldwide on August 23rd

Amazon MGM Studios have announced that The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 2 soundtrack will be released worldwide on August 23rd in anticipation of the highly anticipated return of the series on August 29th. Available across all music streaming services, the full episodic score for the second season of the Amazon Original series was composed by Emmy® Award-winner and composer of all your favourite shows Bear McCreary (Da Vinci’s Demons, Firefly, Battlestar Galactica, The Walking Dead).

To capture the epic nature of the show’s first season, McCreary combined symphonic orchestra, percussion, folk instruments from across Europe and North Africa, and solo vocalists and choirs singing in the iconic languages of J.R.R. Tolkien’s books. The second season’s soundtrack promises to be even better with McCreary including a Bulgarian women’s choir and gadulka for Rhûn, children’s choir for the pastoral city of Eregion, Hardanger fiddle for new character Estrid, and deathly whispers for the terrifying Barrow-wights.

For the first season, McCreary collaborated with Fiona Apple for the song: “Where the Shadows Lie,”. This season McCreary has invited Grammy-nominated artist Rufus Wainwright to bring to life the song “Old Tom Bombadil”, and Jens Kidman, lead singer of Grammy-nominated Swedish extreme-metal band Meshuggah, to feature on “Last Ballad of Damrod,”. Even while balancing these many diverse and eclectic musical influences, McCreary always refers to Tolkien’s writings for inspiration. “I am honored to continue forward on this journey, bringing the events of Tolkien’s Second Age to life on the screen,” says McCreary. As an extra treat, cast members Sophia Nomvete (Princess Disa) Benjamin Walker (Gil-galad), Rory Kinnear (Tom Bombadil) and Daniel Weyman (The Stranger) also lend their vocal talents to several songs on the soundtrack.

“This new soundtrack is a stunning companion to the series’ continued exploration of the Second Age” said Bob Bowen, worldwide head of music for Amazon MGM Studios. “With the debut of Season Two on the horizon, we’re excited to give fans a further glimpse into the epic series.”
