10 Movies We Want To See At SDCC 2024

It’s just over a month until San Diego Comic Con. Announcements regarding offsites, exclusives, and signings have already started. There’s even been some smaller panel announcements. Confirmation for the films heading to Hall H have yet to be made but that doesn’t stop us having fun speculating. Featuring exclusive footage, talented stars, Q&As, and sometimes even free swag, SDCC film panels are the most exciting place to be. Here we break down the top 10 films we want to see at SDCC and how likely they are to appear.

  1. Deadpool & Wolverine/Marvel panel

The film is due to be release the Friday of the con which may seem too late for a promo push but that’s never stopped 20th Century Fox before, given they gave it a massive celebration back in 2018 after the sequel had already left theatres. Could fans be treated to a special screening? If Deadpool doesn’t show, Marvel still has plenty to promote. Our money would be on Captain America: Brave New World, and Thunderbolts which February 2025 and May 2025 release dates respectively.

2. Wicked

SDCC isn’t usually one for musicals but Wicked seems like the perfect movie to break that rule. It has a built in fan base and prospective audiences have already been hyped up the trailer. Pair that with a very fan friendly cast including Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande, Michelle Yeoh, Jeff Goldblum, Jonathan Bailey, and Peter Dinklage, and Wicked has the potential to have one of the most anticipated panels at Comic Con.

3. Borderlands

Lionsgate is never a sure thing when it comes to SDCC but if there is anything that will get them there, it’s Borderlands. Based on the video game that has a legion of fans, and with a long list of stars attached including Cate Blanchett and Kevin Hart, it seems like the ideal movie to have a Hall H panel. With an August 9th release date, it would be a superb time to give it one last promo push.

4. Trap

When it comes to horror movies, it’s always a toss-up whether they attend SDCC. But with Trap being the newest project from M. Night Shyamalan and starring Josh Hartnett, a panel would slot in well to the line-up. Or, with an early August release date, could fans be treated to a screening? ScareDiego hasn’t happened for a few years but this could be the perfect movie to make its return.

5. The Wild Robot

SDCC always tends to bring a family offering and The Wild Robot would be a brilliant fit. The fact that it centres on a robot means it’s genre worthy and it has a Comic Con friendly cast including Lupita Nyong’o, Bill Nighy, Kit Connor, Stephanie Hsu, Mark Hamill, Catherine O’Hara, Matt Berry, and Pedro Pascal (the latter 3 who could already be at Comic Con promoting other projects). The trailer for this film has already been released, and it’s fantastic. It would be a great panel for both children and adults.

6. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice

This seems like a no brainer. It’s a cult classic with a sequel 30 years in the making, has a cast that is perfect for SDCC (Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, Catherine O’Hara, and Jenna Ortega), and is certainly genre fitting. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice could be one of the biggest movies of 2024, and with a September release, Comic Con is the perfect place to show why.

7. Nosferatu

What could be more Comic Con than a remake of a classic vampire horror? There’s already been a lot of hype surrounding Nosferatu, and a full length trailer hasn’t even been released yet. Perhaps, SDCC would be the perfect place to do so. Plus Bill Bill Skarsgård may already be in town to promote another project (see number 9) so promotion for this would line up well.

8. Alien: Romulus

Given that Alien: Romulus will be the first new instalment of the franchise in 7 years and it will be released just over 2 weeks after the con, SDCC seems like a great place to give it that final big promotional push. The Alien films are iconic and will no doubt draw in a lot of old fans, as well as perhaps gaining some new ones if it were to have a panel at Comic Con.

9. The Crow

If Lionsgate choose to bring Borderlands, then it would make sense for The Crow to tag along. Like others on the list it has an August release date, and is a hotly anticipated sequel to a cult classic. Plus, with fan favourite Bill Skarsgård playing the titular character, attendees would surely flock to Hall H for a panel.

10. Venom 3

Sony hasn’t attended SDCC since 2018. However, the last film they promoted there was in fact the first Venom film. So it would certainly be a full circle moment if they were to return with what will probably be the last instalment in the franchise. Details around the movie have been a bit scarce so there would be plenty to reveal at Comic Con.
