Obliterated Is A Rediculous Gem

I’ve seen a few other outlets give this show a terrible review, but I am here to tell you that they are wrong, so very wrong. Obliterated is not a healthy mix of ideas, no this series is the deep fried mars bars of television, it’s everything that’s bad for you, yet under the right conditions oddly self reflective.

The plot is as follows: “An elite team is assembled from various branches of the US armed forces to stop a deadly terrorist network from blowing up Las Vegas. They complete the mission and celebrate with a night on the town, filled with sex, drugs, and alcohol. They discover that the bomb they neutralized was fake, so the team must fight through their intoxication to find the real one and save the day.”

So picture this, The Expendables meets The Hangover with a dash of the Fast Saga and that’s my pitch. It’s completely daft, and at times a childish but the series is definitely aware of this and in fact embraces it while taking the piss out of it.

Part of what makes this one so good is the cast. Nick Zano, who is also unrecognisable from his Legends of Tomorrow days, and Shelley Hennig play the ridiculously cheesy named leads of Chad McKnight and Ava Winters. They take the will they won’t they trope to a weird new level and I am here for it. And yes I absolutely love the fact that Chad McKnight is a complete parody of every ridiculous action hero I grew up watching on TV.

In a surprisingly silly series this one does not skip on the action. From pretty intense gun fights to a woman on MDMD trying to shoot someone from a zipline, this show has it all.

On a final note, choosing to set this series was just inspiring. There are few places on this planet as chaotic, plus let’s face it, the city just looks awesome.

If you were a fan of the 24 series but just need a break from all the world’s problems this shows for you.
