It is always great to see a comedy actor make the transfer to something more serious, even though many fall flat, but in Uproar Julian Dennison seems to be flying high by showing us a very strong performance.

If you think Julian looks familiar you may recognise him from his performances in Hunt For the Wilderpeople, Deadpool 2 and Godzilla Vs Kong. Each time he has shown a strong performance and it looks like it’s transferred to his dramatic work too.

Set during the 1981 Springbok tour of New Zealand when the arrival of the South African national rugby team set off nationwide protests against apartheid and racism. Josh Wakka is at a weird point in his life, he is the only non white kid in his school, he is overweight and he is a teenager. This looks to be a coming of age drama, but one set during a very interesting time in history and tells a story that few know.
