Convention

Dublin Comic Con Summer 2023 Cosplay

It is hard to believe that this convention has been going on for ten years now, but here we are. I still remember ten years ago when cosplay was a fringe part of the event and nowhere near the level it is now. In ancient times the people of Ireland were famed for their creativity, and crafting skills and it seems that many cosplayers have rediscovered those skills and are showing the world that we have talent enough to stand up with the big boys.

It would not be a convention without some Anime cosplay and all the crowd favorites were on show Demon Slayer, Chainsaw Man, and Oshi no Ko were all on display. Of course, there were plenty of others such as the hugely famous Dragon Ball Z, I think I even saw a Prince of Tennis cosplay.

On a weekend such as this, no one would be shocked by the sheer amount of comic book costumes on show. I must have seen a legion of Spider-Men, Superman, Captain America, multiple Wolverines, Thor, and Loki to name but a few.

Though it is hard to admit that Disney may have a monopoly on our nerdy time, not only were there a tonne of Marvel costumes but we had the Emerald Legion of Star Wars cosplayers out in full force (you can see them below), one of the most stunning Belle cosplays with I believe 7 Layers that according to the maker had her time, blood, sweat and tears in it. As dresses go it was absolutely beautiful. But I digress because Disney of course has some amazing villains and here on display are two of my favourites Jafar and Shego.

With Both the voices of Mater Chief and Cortana attending this con it was great to see so many cosplayers showing their love for the Halo franchise with their amazing costumes.

Of course, they were not the only gaming icons in attendance. We had this amazing Mei from Overwatch(AKA The Devil – not the cosplayer she was lovely to speak with). A badass Tifa, who looked like she could easily kick my ass, and a few terrors from Resident Evil Village and the not-so-lovely town of Silent Hill – personally if pyramid head at heels that big they would be less intimidating and I would feel more confident in my ability to evade him.

But there was so much more creativity on display over the weekend, I am not sure how to describe it other than inspiring, especially that one samurai with an outfit made out of pizza boxes and cider cans, you sir are the hero we need not the one that we deserve.

At the end of the day at least I know that Jesus loves us all and I cannot wait to go back next year for Dublin Comic Con Spring 2024.
