Sony Put the Freeze On El Muerto

Sony has just removed the Bad Bunny starring El Muerto from their release schedule. This is probably the first major Hollywood film to be affected by the Writers Strike.

Frankly I do not think this is going to be a big loss. Yes this is the first Marvel film to be led by a Latino actor, but it is also one of Sony’s Spider-man films, and if you have read my opinions on Kraven and Morbius then you will know that I do not have much faith in El Muerto.

As characters go Marvel don’t really have much like this one. His official bio reads as follows:

“Determined to defeat wrestling god el Dorado, who killed his father, and earn the right to his family’s legacy mask, Juan-Carlos Estrada Sánchez becomes the Luchador known as el Muerto.’

At this point not much is known about the project other than Bad Bunny Is starring and Jonás Cuarón, son of filmmaker Alfonso Cuarón, is in the director’s chair. It was also slated for a Jan. 12, 2024, release date.

Other than that all we have are rumours such as Mercedes Varnado, known as Sasha Banks, for a role, and Marvin Jones III for the role of the crime lord known as Tombstone. Interestingly Jones also voiced Tombstone in Spider-Man into the Spider-Verse.

Still there is no news regarding Dakota Johnson and Sydney Sweeney’s Madame Web which is still slated for Feb. 16, 2024.
