Baby Assassins Nice Days – GFF25

Set in the beautiful city of Miyazaki, Japan, the once Tokyo bound twosome of Chisato and Mahiro just want a relaxing vacation complete with sun, sand, sea and everything that goes with that. Unfortunately, due to a hit gone wrong, this diabolical duo are forced to put their trip on hold and hunt their deadliest opponent yet.

This one’s a huge jump in quality from the previous film. This is saying something, especially since number 2 was a vast improvement on the 1st in the series. And for the most part, it is self-contained, so if you have not seen the first two, you can still enjoy this one without any issue.

As with the previous films, Akari Takaishi and Saori Izawa are somehow delightful, loveable, and terrifying all at once. And that is all down to the actors portrayals, one minute, they are childlike and goofy. The next, they are killers on the hunt.

Speaking of killers, the action is so dam good in this film. Think John Wick but more grounded. There’s just something about the kills in this franchise. They are somehow grounded and brutal, yet never sickening. This is a real testament to writer & director Yugo Sakamoto. He is an excellent story teller.

But of course, through all the violence, we have this beautiful story about two best friends. That probably get each other in a way no one else ever will, and I’m a little jealous of that. Also, I may be projecting, but these two, characters, are probably on the spectrum, so it’s nice to see some representation for folks like me.

This film definitely felt more mature than its predecessors. It’s well paced, hilarious, stylish, and above all, fun with a love of heart. It’s definitely my favourite film of 2025 right now.
