RIP ROOSTER TEETH

Well, this one just sucks. Rooster Teeth who where once at the forefront of Internet humour, when over two decades ago, they used Halo to create the now legendary Red vs Blue, are finally shutting up shop. Yes, it looks like the time is finally up on the Austin based company. And if you are looking someone to blame, then look now further than big daddy Warner Bros.

It seems Rooster Teeth has become another casulty from the continuous mismanagement of WB. The news was announced at an all-hands company meeting and shared in an internal memo by Rooster Teeth general manager Jordan Levin. This will sadly see all 150 full-time employees laid off.

Money hungry Warner Bros. Discovery is currently in talks to sell the rights to certain shows in the Rooster Teeth back catalogue. This includes shows like RWBY, Camp Camp &Red vs. Blue. They are also looking to sell the Roost podcast network.

If you are wondering how Warner got a hold of Rooster Teeth, well, let’s take a strole down memory lane. Way back in 2014, RT was purchased by Fullscreen, who in turn was purchased by Otter Media, which eventually led to Warner and now Discovery.

From a business perspective, the sale does make sense because RT’s numbers have severally dropped off over the years. But still, in my mind, it’s better to make something work rather than just destroy it.
