Well, Madame Web has officially been released, and honestly, it’s not terrible. Ye I am going to get a lot of hate for saying it, but for anyone calling it the worst movie ever, trust me, there are far worse movies out there. But when I started this site I did so hoping to avoid shitting on other people’s work, so this is my defence of Madame Web.

Before we get into its good points, let’s take the bad. Dialogue leaves a lot to be desired, and some of the acting chops are weak sauce, particularly from our lead hero and the villain. But it’s not all terrible.

Sydney Sweeney, Celeste O’Connor & Isabela Merced are just fantastic in the film. They don’t get much screen time, but when they get to do more than just moan, they are really fun. In my opinion, they really could have used a female writer, if only to give us more accurate dialogue for teenage girls.

Adam Scott playing Uncle Ben was an interesting choice. He was good, but the problem is he can be great, and Madame Web really does not give him anything to do. Still, it was an interesting, if not lazy, choice to include Uncle Ben in the movie.
Now, if you are wondering how someone as young as Adam Scott can play Uncle Ben, well, this film is a prequel. To which Spider-Man film, unfortunately, or is that fortunately none of them. Though timeliness was this one, this one actually ties in with the MCU, but I doubt Disney will let that happen.
So far, I’ve had to give any praise with a but the next parts I can’t fault. Firstly, the soundtrack took me right back to my teen years in all the best ways.
.Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Miles Away
.Graciela Oddone – La Púrpura de la Rosa
.Mis-Teeq – ‘Scandalous
.Meredith Brooks – Bitch
.Britney Spears – Toxic
.Tiffany – I Think We’re Alone Now
.The Cranberries – Dreams

Secondly, the camera work and lighting were fantastic. In fact, I’d argue that Madame Web does not deserve camera and lighting this good. I know this is an odd one to praise, but trust me, it was very good.
Finally, the film actually does something interesting with precognition. The scenes where Cassandra Webb finally uses her powers are actually fun.
It’s not a great movie, and if you just want to switch off and stuff your face with some popcorn this will be the movie for you.
