If you forgot Gina became a huge hit with fans in the early seasons of the Mandalorian, but for some fans that love turned to hate when she made some controversial posts to her twitter feed during the COVID 19 pandemic.

Before we get into what she said, this is what she is saying about now about her controversial tweets:

Posts were “not with aggression but with respect & the occasional comedy to keep the mood light in dark times”.

What did she post?

Well there were plenty of posts that pushed the boundaries, such as joking about pronouns in her bio or making some political statements, especially about masks but this tweet was too much for Disney.

“Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors… even by children… Because history is edited, most people today don’t realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews. How is that any different from hating someone for their political views?”

Her supporters will cite free speech, but I’ve worked for a large corporation and making a comment like this would have gotten me fired. So I can understand why Disney did it, and you will find that they have very strict contracts to keep the talent in line, still on this one Gina does have a backer, Elon Musk.

Gina Carano is suing Disney over being fired from the Mandalorian. But she is not walking this path alone, it seems she has Elon Musk backing her.

Back in 2023 Musk pledged to help anyone who had faced employment discrimination over what they posted on the platform, it seems he is a man of his word.

Carano has stated that she has“deepest gratitude” for Musk assisting her in the case. “I am grateful someone has come to my defense in such a powerful way & look forward to clearing my name.”

Musk is famously a champion of free speech, but only for speech he agrees with.

I do wonder if she will mention how she stubbornly refused to meet with a group of LGBTQ+ employees, or how she was repeatedly asked not to make these posts, or how she spread election falsehoods. She plays the victim here, but it seems to be that she is unhappy that she had to play by the same rules as the rest of us.

On one hand I do respect her for standing by her beliefs, but on the other I have little doubt that the House of Mouse reached out to her management and requested she reign it in. And I don’t think she should have received such hateful messages from those on the left, that is not going to change anyone’s mind.

Finally I decided to take a look through Gina’s timeline and there is always a chance that it’s been curated in anticipation for this lawsuit, but I’m seeing someone on the polar opposite side of the political spectrum from me, but someone who probably wants many of the same things as me, and maybe she like many others was just broken by the pandemic. This entire saga will be interesting to follow.
