In June 1978 they came, the space invader, a deadly force of invaders that we where not wholly ready for, invaders that would forever alter our culture for better or worse. So in saying that we should say happy birthday Space Invaders, 35 years on our screens and your still one of the most loved video games of all time.
I’m not going to sit here and bore you with the game play, everyone knows how it works and if you don’t, either go back to the rock you live under and have a snooze or click here and enjoy the game.
The game has given us so much, including some questionable music –
To amazing art, an example is the french artist Invader who pastes up characters from and inspired by the game made up of small coloured square mosaic tiles that form a space invader murals. You can see this in cities throughout the world.
Its even entered our televisions, a great example is Futuramas, anthology of Interests II, where Fry battled space invaders below is a video game mash up of that.
The greatest Invasion ever will have to be my friends bed sheets (which I cant photograph)
This is an ongoing cultural Invasion and after 35 years we have defiantly lost and are all the better for it.
Happy Birthday day dear friend hope to be there for your 70th.
